Lauds from the Office of the Dead For the repose of the souls of the departed members of our Congregation and Community, our families, friends, relatives, and benefactors, and all those enrolled in the Purgatorian League: V. Come Holy Ghost, fill the hearts of Thy faithful; Let us Pray: O God, Who by the light of the Holy Ghost, didst instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant us by that same Holy Ghost that we may be made truly wise, and ever to rejoice in His consolation; through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen. Open + my mouth, O Lord, to bless Thy holy Name. Cleanse + my heart from all vain, evil, and distracting thoughts. Enlighten my understanding, inflame my will, that I may worthily recite this Office with attention and devotion, and may deserve to be heard in the Presence of Thy Divine Majesty, through the merits of Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen. O Lord, in union with that Divine intention with which Thou didst praise God on earth, I offer to Thee this hour. Pater Noster… (silently) Ave Maria… (silently) Ant. The bones which Thou hast broken shall rejoice. Psalm 50 Have mercy upon me, O Lord, after Thy great mercy.
Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
Against Thee--Thee only--have I sinned and done evil in Thy sight; that Thou mightest be justified when Thou speakest, and mayest overcome when Thou art judged.
For behold, Thou desirest truth: the hidden secrets of Thy wisdom Thou hast made manifest unto me.
Make me to hear joy and gladness, that the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Restore unto me the joy of my salvation and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.
Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, Thou God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of Thy righteousness.
For Thou desirest not sacrifice, else would I give it: Thou delightest not in burnt-offering.
O Lord, grant them eternal rest,
Ant. The bones which Thou hast broken shall rejoice. Canticle of Ezechias I said: In the midst of my days,
I looked for the residue of my years. I said: I shall not see the Lord my God in the land of the living.
Mine age is departed and is rolled up from me, as a shepherd's tent.
I thought I might live till morning; as a lion, so doth He break all my bones.
Mine eyes fail with looking upward.
I will recall to remembrance before Thee all my years, in the bitterness of my soul.
But Thou hast delivered my soul from destruction: Thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
The living, the living, he shall praise Thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known Thy truth.
O Lord, grant them eternal rest.
Ant. From the gates of the grave deliver my soul, O Lord! Psalm 150 Praise the Lord in His sanctuary.
Praise ye Him in His mighty acts. Praise ye Him according to His excellent greatness.
Praise Him with timbrel and choir. Praise Him with strings and organs.
O Lord, grant them eternal rest.
Ant. Let everything that hath breath, praise the Lord! V. I heard a voice from Heaven saying unto me; Ant. I am the Resurrection and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me, shall never die.
+ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel;
And He hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David:
That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us:
The oath which He swore to our father Abraham, that He would grant unto us.
In holiness and righteousness before Him, all the days of our life.
To give knowledge of salvation unto His people, by the remission of their sins:
To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death; to guide our feet into the way of peace.
And let the everlasting light shine upon them. Ant. I am the Resurrection and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me, shall never die. Pater Noster… (silently) De Profundis Psalm 129 Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice.
If Thou, O Lord, shalt mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
My soul hath waited on His word: my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him plenteous redemption.
O Lord, grant them eternal rest,
V. From the gates of the grave. Let us Pray: Upon the Death of a Member of our Congregation: O God, Whose way it is to have mercy always and to pardon, we humbly beseech Thee for the soul(s) of Thy servant(s) (Name), whom Thou hast bidden (this day) to depart from the world, not to deliver him (her, them) into the hands of the enemy, nor to forget him (her, them) forever, but to bid him (her, them) be taken up by the holy Angels and conducted to Paradise, our home, so that, as he (she, they) hoped and believed in Thee, he (she, they) may not have to bear the sufferings of Hell, but possess everlasting joys; through Our Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, One God forever, unto ages of ages. Amen. V. O Lord, grant him (her, them) eternal rest. V. May he (she, they) rest in peace. On other Occasions (Anniversary of death or burial, etc.) O Lord, incline Thy ear to the prayers whereby we humbly call upon Thee to set the soul(s) of Thy servant(s), (Name) whom it hath pleased Thee to call from this world, in a place of peace and light, and to put him (her, them) in the company of Thy saints. Lord, we beseech Thee in the tenderness of Thy great mercy to have pity upon the soul(s) of Thy servant(s). Purge him (her, them) from the defilements whereby in this (these) dying body(ies) he (she, they) has (have) been stained, and give him (her, them) inheritance in everlasting salvation. O God, Who yearnest to save the souls of men and art eager to pardon, hear, we beseech Thee, the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our holy Patron, the Saints of the Fatima Crusade, and all Thy Saints, and grant to the departed members and benefactors of our Congregation and Community, and our relatives and friends that are dead speedily to come unto repose without end and the blessed joys of Heaven. O God, Who art Thyself at once the Maker and the Redeemer of all Thy faithful ones, grant unto the soul(s) of Thy servant(s) remission of all his (her, their) sins, that by pious supplication he (she, they) may attain that indulgence he (she, they) has (have) ever longed for; Who livest and reignest with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, forever, unto ages of ages. Amen. V. O Lord, grant him (her, them) eternal rest. V. May he (she, they) rest in peace. Visit also: www.marienfried.com |
